Do you have linoleum floors at home? Then you are lucky because it’s such a stunning floor to have. But how to clean it properly? As you probably know taking care of linoleum floors is a bit different from cleaning vinyl flooring, even though they look similar. Vinyl floors are way more durable and can be exposed to harsh chemicals without issues. Linoleum, however, needs a different approach – a more natural one.
Today, I will show you how I clean my linoleum floors and how I have been cleaning them for over 5 years – and they still look as good as brand new.
You need to prepare a bucket, a cotton cloth, a mop, and apple cider vinegar.
Fill the bucket with vinegar. Yes, you won’t be filling it with water but with vinegar. Of course, you can add a bit of water as well if you want to dilute the vinegar so it doesn’t smell that much but know that this step isn’t necessary. Why can we use vinegar? Because linoleum floors will not soak it. Unlike wooden floors which should not be cleaned with vinegar because they will soak up the liquid, linoleum floors don’t have that problem which makes the cleaning easier!
Soak the mop in the vinegar then remove the excess moisture and start wiping the floors. Go over the entire floor.
And that’s it – you are done! You don’t need to dry the surface, just let it air-dry. The vinegar will evaporate quickly, however, you might want to open a window so you can speed up the process as well as get rid of the vinegar smell.
